Deputy Director for Quality, Safety and Improvement (Nursing)

Rhiannon Jones is the Deputy Director for Quality, Safety and Improvement (Nursing), responsible for strategic development, professional practice and clinical leadership, with oversight of NHS performance in terms of the quality and safety of care provided.

Rhiannon has a wealth of experience as a Registered Nurse, with more than 36 years working across NHS Wales. In the latter years of her career, she was an Assistant Director of Nursing in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board for five years, holding the complex and multi-faceted portfolio for quality, safety and experience, leading and driving improvements for the benefit of patients. She has had over seven years’ experience as an Executive Director of Nursing in Powys Teaching Health Board and Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

For the last 18 months, Rhiannon has been working for the Chief Nursing Officer for Wales, jointly leading a national project to explore options and opportunities for the future development of the band 4 (nursing) role across NHS Wales.

Rhiannon is a Florence Nightingale Scholar and holds a Master’s Degree in Health Service Management. She has previously benefitted from international travel to Canada and the USA exploring the management of patient falls, patient self-medication and collaborative care planning, as well as visiting Florence in Italy, with the Lean Enterprise Academy, to share the adoption of Lean methodology to secure improvements in Emergency Care.
