July Career Event

Successful and enjoyable day at a Welsh speaking Careers Fair

On 12 June, Careers Wales invited the National Pathology Programme to participate in a Careers Fair at Ysgol Gyfun Llanhari. Representing our team were Lisa McCutcheon, our Communications and Engagement Project Manager, and Mark Henry, Cwm Taf Morgannwg’s Biochemistry, PoCT and Immunology Service Manager. Both Lisa and Mark, as Welsh speakers, had the opportunity to engage with Year 10 and Year 12 students, discussing the vital role pathologists play in healthcare.

The students showed great interest in the 'behind the scenes' work involved in patient diagnosis. Despite the smaller size of the Year 12 group, many students were eager to learn. Mark shared his journey from his A-level grades to becoming a biomedical scientist and eventually advancing to his current managerial position.

We extend our thanks to Mark for dedicating his time to inspire students despite his demanding workload. Such engagement sessions are crucial for nurturing the next generation of pathology professionals in Wales.

If you are interested in attending future career events or are already involved with schools, colleges, and other partners, we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch with us if you would like us to showcase your work in our next newsletter.
