New Quality Management System Hub Introduced

The NHS Wales Executive has introduced a new resource to support the development of Quality Management Systems (QMS) across NHS Wales.

The new Quality Management Systems Hub will equip individuals and teams with resources, tools and learning from practice to support their efforts to establish a QMS in their organisation, as required by the Duty of Quality

The hub, which will evolve in line with organisations’ needs over time, is part of a suite of national support being provided through the Safe Care Partnership’s Duty of Quality Leaders workstream.

Activity in the workstream will include convening a QMS learning network, prototyping a care group or directorate implementation of QMS to highlight learning and inform spread and scale, and offering board development sessions and staff development packages.

The support is being introduced following the recent publication of a paper by the NHS Wales Executive sharing an evidence-based approach that healthcare organisations can follow to develop a QMS.

The paper surfaces learning and insights gained during a five-year process of researching, developing and successfully testing a new QMS framework and methodology.

Dom Bird, Acting National Director for Quality, Safety and Improvement, NHS Wales Executive, said: “We’re pleased to introduce this first iteration of our new Quality Management Systems Hub as part of the wider support we’re offering to organisations throughout NHS Wales.

“This new hub will grow over time to provide an increasingly comprehensive and valuable resource for individuals and teams looking to establish quality management systems, both within and beyond NHS Wales.

“Working together with colleagues across NHS Wales in the months ahead to embed effective Quality Management Systems in a variety of settings and contexts offers an exciting opportunity for shared learning. That will provide strong foundations for developing a collective understanding of quality management within healthcare, which will inform achieving a robust, consistent approach to implementing it throughout Wales.”
