Improvement project showcased at national maternity safety conference

28 October 2024

A project to improve medicines management on the maternity unit at Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen has been showcased at a national maternity safety conference.

Jennifer Pearce, a Local Maternity Safety Champion for Improvement Cymru and Midwife for Hywel Dda University Health Board, presented a project illustrating the project at this year’s Baby Lifeline National Maternity Safety Conference

A multi-disciplinary project team at the west Wales hospital explored the compliance of the medicine’s management policy relating administration of vitamin K in newborns, a supplement which is recommended for all new babies.

Jennifer said: “I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to present our quality improvement project poster at the Baby Lifeline National Maternity Safety Conference 2024 which was an incredible experience.

“It was an honour to share the team’s work alongside so many inspiring professionals dedicated to improving maternal and neonatal safety.

“The speakers throughout the day were exceptional, offering innovative approaches and solutions that reinforced the belief that together, we can make a difference and reduce health inequalities. Being part of such a passionate group of clinicians left me motivated and optimistic about the future of perinatal partnership working, women and their babies’ safety.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank my colleagues for their continuous support in improving quality and safety at Glangwili Hospital.”
