IBD care under the spotlight

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) will be high on the agenda this week with the launch of a UK-wide report examining the care received by people living with the condition.

The State of IBD Care in the UK gathers the voices of 17,654 people with IBD, parents and carers, as well as the views of 150 IBD services, to produce recommendations that will drive national and local action to improve diagnosis and treatment across the UK.

The report will be launched at an online event on 12 December hosted by IBD UK, a partnership of 16 professional bodies, royal colleges and patient organisations. Among the speakers at the launch will be Dr Clare Tibbatts, clinical lead of the NHS Wales IBD Implementation Network.

In advance of the official launch, Crohn’s & Colitis UK hosted a Parliamentary reception at the House of Lords, hosted by The Baroness Young of Old Scone, on 4 December to highlight the report’s findings and recommendations.

Victoria Taylor, Network Manager for the National Strategic Clinical Network for Gastrointestinal Conditions, attended the event.

She said: “The Parliamentary reception was a great opportunity for people living with IBD and health professionals to share their experiences and to raise awareness and influence policy and legislation. I was very pleased to be able to represent the Network and highlight the work we will be doing in Wales.”

The virtual launch of ‘The State of IBD Care in the UK’ takes place on Thursday 12 December 2024, 18:00- 19:15.
