Workstreams

Our workforce programme lead co-ordinates delivery of this workstream via the Imaging Workforce and Education Group (IWEG).

IWEG works closely with Higher Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) to:

  • Deliver sustainable workforce arrangements across imaging services in Wales
  • Create a strong, resilient workforce
  • Support staff to deliver services well
  • Deliver a sustainable future for Imaging services.

Our quality programme lead co-ordinates delivery of this workstream via the All Wales Imaging Quality Forum (AWIQF).

The AWIQF is a well-established group overseeing matters relating to quality standardisation aiming to:

  • Conduct a review of QSI (the Quality Standard for Imaging) and resource required to implement across NHS Wales
  • Encourage sharing of resources via Quality and Improvement Radiographers and Radiologists to implement QSI
  • Ultimately, implement QSI with full accreditation across NHS Wales.

Programme and clinical leads in this work stream are responsible for developing sustainable models and solutions for the delivery of imaging services in Wales.

Examples of this work include:

  • Implementation of a quality assured All Wales MRI Surveillance Programme for women identified at very high risk of developing breast cancer
  • Development of a robust governance process to support a national, sustainable, clinically focused capital equipment programme across NHS Wales – this will ensure that the current clinical diagnostic imaging requirements for the population of Wales are met and there is an appropriate distribution of capital money to meet the clinical diagnostic need
  • Establishment of a Prostate Cancer Diagnostics Pathway Subgroup to promote standards-based implementation of the Prostate Cancer: Diagnosis and Management NICE Guidelines across NHS Wales.
